Winterized!

We've noticed some water in the attic after rain storms for a few months now, and finally called the roofers in to take a look before nasty winter weather sets in. The diagnosis: Cracked shingles on the west-facing side. Now they've been patching and replacing all day, and we're out $600.

The only good part of this news, is the contractors did not say we needed to replace the whole roof. How much does that cost these days? $10,000? $20,000?

Believe me, my fingers are crossed that you don't need a new roof.
Here are some of my experiences trying to find a contractor to do mine.

Another reason to be happy to not live in Newton. The price of any quote is always jacked up with an assumption of $$$.

We have to replace our roof. Its a Victorian with various weird angles, and there are 2 layers of bad roof to remove before the good one goes on to adhere to Waltham building codes. Our quote: $12,000. Ouch! So, its waiting for the spring to be repaired.
